Continued Professional
Development  

As my preservice education nears completion, I am acutely aware that my learning and development as a teacher have only just begun. I believe we have never finished learning; as I begin my career, I wish to continue to gain knowledge about students' well-being. I am gaining knowledge about how I can assist students in relieving their stress or anxiety to support them in reaching their full potential.

I believe that happy and healthy students are in the best position to learn. Art is a medium that facilitates challenging discussions; students can tackle significant issues in a manner suited to them, and the art room can promote wellbeing. I have participated in a continued professional development course focused on cognitive behaviour therapy and challenging negative thought patterns. I am interested in this area and believe that it will significantly impact my students' development. (Please see below the certificates of attendance of the CPD course that I have attended to date.)

I am looking forward to completing the Droichead Framework, which will facilitate my collaboration with established teachers. This collaboration will provide the opportunity to reflect on my own/others' teaching practices. I believe that through observing other teachers' practice will propel my own teaching practice forward. . Throughout my school placement in Colaiste na Mi I observed a number of different teachers' practice in both practical and academic. This is an invaluable asset that is accessible to all teachers and one that I wish to embed in my continued professional development even after I have completed the Droichead process.

Throughout my school placement, I met with my fellow peers, as a community of practice, to discuss our experiences. This was invaluable, not only did we lend a compassionate ear, but supported each other through sharing resources, discussing pedagogical approaches and providing technical support for the use of new media. I wish to continue engaging in this community of practice as a progress in my career.

I wish to continue to engage in a subject related continual professional development. I wish to further my knowledge in screen printing, batik and animation.  As my own competencies develop in different artistic media, this will be reflected in my units of learning. Providing students with the opportunity to trail new and exciting media, and develop wider skill set.
