Teaching & Learning Online

As a result of covid-19, my first school placement occurred online. This required me to adapt my planning, units of learning, lesson plans, and learning activities; creating engaging art projects yet requiring minimal media, to facilitate remote learning.

I utilised platforms such as the Menti-meter to gauge students' feelings surrounding lockdown and covid-19, on which the students based their projects. I believe that teachers and students alike have different and often unique life experiences, perspectives, and opinions they bring to the classroom. Art is a medium that facilitates challenging discussions; students can tackle significant issues in manners that are suited to them, and the art room can promote wellbeing.

Students represented their emotional responses in the form of self-portraits using minimal text. To conclude the project, we held a class exhibition of the work produced during this remote teaching and learning period on the application padlet. Put in padlet link Students uploaded their finished pieces and wrote a short statement on their work and the emotions represented in their piece.

Student Voice

I regularly utilize platforms such as menti meter to gather students’ ideas or opinions in a confidential and visual form. I have used mentimeter in the classroom and during periods of remote learning.

As each student has a unique perspective menti meter can provide an interactive and engaging manner to spark a discussion amongst students. This allows students to consider an others view, expanding their own understanding or recognizing another’s perspective. Allowing the art room to be a safe space to engage with enquiry and conversation.
